We were eating Sunday lunch with a Texas ranch family. The rancher (a typical "Don't fence me " Texan) said, "Hey Preacher, take off your tie and make yourself comfortable." He had already flung his tie on the hatrack with his Stetson. His wife said, "Hush, Honey, the Preacher is comfortable with his tie on...he wears one every day...you wear one for two hours on Sunday morning. Let him be! Let him be!"
Well, don't you know it's easy to assume that everyone feels just like you do about things. It is difficult to say, "He has the right to feel the way he does about that." It is possible to justify imposing your opinion on others by saying, "But, he's my husband...but she's my wife...but he's my child." This being true, it makes it even more imperative to give them space to differ from you...it's unhealthy not to! God is working on them just like he is working on you...and he's not through working on you or them or me! It's part of the great principle of "treating others as you would like for them to treat you."
